Wildcats travel to Idaho to compete in the NNU Thanksgiving Classic

ELLENSBURG, WASH. – Central Washington Men’s Basketball travels to attend the NNU Thanksgiving Classic in Nampa, Idaho. The Wildcats face Midwestern State (0-3) and Azusa Pacific (3-2).

“This will be another challenging weekend with games against Midwestern State and Azusa Pacific in the Northwest Nazarene tournament. Midwestern is a very athletic team that plays very good zone defense. Azusa Pacific was a national tournament team last year and as one has cemented itself early on as one of the top teams in the West Region.”

RECOGNIZING THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State University is currently 0-3 overall. Two weeks ago the Mustangs lost to UC Colorado Springs 72-68. on the 17thth, MSU fell on their home opener to Northwestern Oklahoma, 67-64. That night, Derrick Ogechi led the Mustangs by 16 points. Malik Parsons led Northwestern Oklahoma to victory with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Mustang’s top scorers are Pierre Sanders, averaging 13 points per game, and Derrick Ogechi, averaging 10.7 points per game. Jermane Carter leads the team in rebounding with 22 boards in three games. Midwestern State University is 2-0 against the Wildcats. MSU is coming off a narrow loss (67-64) against Northwestern Oklahoma.

RECOGNIZING THE PUMAS

Azusa Pacific is 3-2 overall this season, with two of their wins coming against GNAC opponents. Last weekend, the Cougars defeated Western Washington (86-72) and Seattle Pacific (77-70) in the GNAC/PacWest Challenge hosted by Azusa Pacific.

The Cougar’s top scorer is Ken West, averaging 16 points per game. In the last game against the Vikings, West was able to collect 17 points. McKelary Robertson averages 11.2 points per game
the cougars. Justin Hemsley leads the team on the glass with 25 rebounds. Azusa Pacific is 1-1 all time against Crimson and Black. The Cougars appear to have emerged from the Thanksgiving classic with their track record intact.

YOUR WILDCATS

CWU is currently 1-3 after splitting contests in California. The ‘Cats beat 13th place Cal State San Marcos 69-60. Central fell to Cal State Los Angeles 57-51 in a defensive struggle. Camron McNeil leads the Cats with an average of 12.8 points per game. Colby Gennett is not far behind with an average of nine points per game. Leading the boards for the ‘Cats is Matt Pocket with 26 rebounds. The Wildcats are targeting two wins to take their overall record to .500.
