The Southwest Vermont health doctor is aiming for the Olympics

Vermont Business Magazine Ivette Guttmann, MD, an exercise medicine physician at SVMC Orthopedics, part of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) and Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) in Bennington, has something in common with the best athletes in the world; She has a dream of making it to the Olympics. Her hope is to serve the athletes as a volunteer doctor.

“I’m an athlete at heart, and the Olympics was something I’ve always aspired to,” Guttmann said. “Although I didn’t make it to the Olympics as an athlete, I hope I can use my skills as a doctor to serve Team USA.”

In a first step, Dr. Guttmann will serve as the lead physician at the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games January 11-22. The 11-day winter multisport and education festival will attract more than 2,500 athletes and delegates from 600 and 50 university-plus nations to compete in 12 sports and 86 medal events.

From Lake Placid, she will travel to the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from January 22nd to February 4th for the upcoming Olympic Games.

“I expect volunteering with the top athletes at the World University Games and the US Olympic Training Center this winter will provide valuable learnings,” said Guttmann. “Serving the Olympians would be a tremendous honor, a great challenge, and an invigorating experience to give back to my patients and my community.”
