Montgomery County Regional Semifinal Football Preview

Lake Creek (12-0): The Lions continue to mow through opponents as they defeated Leander Rouse 78-19 last Friday night. It was the second-highest points scored this season, behind the 80 scored against Mongomery in September. Lake Creek has reached 70 points three times this season and is averaging 56 points per game. The Lake Creek defense lowered their allowed point average to 19.4 points per game. Lake Creek is in the playoffs for the second time in the program’s history, and this will be its first regional semifinal.

Fort Bend Marshall (11-1): The Buffaloes have won 10 straight games, including a 47-7 win over Waco University last week. Marshall has only allowed seven points in the postseason as it beat Huntsville 56-0 in the first round. The Buffaloes allow 6.3 points per game. University of Houston commit wide receiver Ja’koby Banks has 901 yards and six touchdowns this season. Quarterback Jordon Davis has 20 passing touchdowns and rushed for 13 more.

The woods towards Duncanville

Last meeting: The Woods 12, Duncanville 10 – 2001

The Woodlands (11-2): The Woodlands defeated Klein Cain 63-21 to win their first territory championship since 2019. The 135 points scored in two playoff games is easily the most points the Highlanders started scored in the playoffs. The Woodlands have scored 60 or more points six times this season. Quarterback Mabrey Mettauer had three passing touchdowns and rushed for another against Klein Cain.

Duncanville (11-0): The Panthers defeated Wylie 41-0 for the area championship last week. Duncanville was runners-up a year ago when they lost to North Shore 17-10 in the championship game. The Panthers have the fifth recruit (247 Sports) in the country for 2024 in edge rusher Colin Simmons. Duncanville and The Woodlands have never met in the postseason.

Covenant Christian vs. Pasadena First Baptist

Last meeting: First Baptist 64, Covenant Christian 16 – Oct 27, 2022

Covenant Christian (11-2): The Cougars defeated San Marcos Academy 46-0 last week. It was the second straight 46-0 win as the Cougars defeated Marble Falls Faith Academy by the same number of points a week earlier. The Cougars are in the semifinals of the TAPPS 6-Man Division II for the second straight season. In the loss to First Baptist earlier this year, the Cougars played with an injured Kade Houston. Quarterback Jackson Rudy had two touchdown passes that game.

First Baptist (12-0): The Warriors defeated the Waco Live Oak Classical 78-28 last week to win the regional championship. First Baptist is topping teams 759-117 this year. In their first encounter with the Cougars, the Warriors led 424-194 in yards. First Baptist lost in the regional championship last year while competing in Division I.
