KINGSTON, JAMAICA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–As efforts intensify to attract international investors to Jamaica’s shores, the Jamaican government has redoubled efforts to attract more local and foreign direct investment.
The upcoming two-day Invest Jamaica – the Nearshore Delivery Hub of the Caribbean conference, scheduled to take place November 29-30 in Montego Bay, will continue to position Jamaica as the next global “investment destination of choice” and is part of one five-year development project in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to expand the country’s Global Services Sector (GSS).
The event will introduce various innovative, mutually beneficial and sustainable sector-based investment opportunities to potential investors from around the world, particularly in Agribusiness, Global Digital Services, Logistics/Special Economic Zones, Manufacturing, Finance and Tourism.
Global business paired with local sustainability
The continued improvement of the Jamaican economy will fuel a new wave of collaborative and multi-faceted investment in Jamaica that uniquely prioritizes sustainable projects that are viewed as national and global interest.
To support this bridging between the evolving needs of international investors and local social development needs in Jamaica itself, a variety of initiatives from both the public and private sectors are being implemented “on the ground” in the country. These initiatives include the National Investment Policy, the Global Services Sector Project and the Business Environment Reforms Agenda. Importantly, these initiatives will open up new professional development opportunities for Jamaicans and further strengthen the local economy, while enabling the development of high quality skills and offering an unprecedented level of support to investors.
The holistic and ethical choice
Specifically for the Global Service Sector (GSS) project, the skills and apprenticeship programs will develop the Jamaican people in higher value-added service skills such as management and leadership, IT infrastructure, communications, digital marketing, software development and integration, as well as critical and analytical thinking and Human Centered Interaction Design.
Impressively, by the end of the GSS project, the Apprenticeship program will train almost 3,000 Jamaicans, while the High School Immersion Program will train 20,000 local students in improved job readiness and specialized careers, creating tremendous benefits for both Jamaicans and its investors.
This type of thoughtful, holistic and ethical approach to global business is changing the perception of global investing and Jamaica is at the forefront.
