Former LeBron James teammate says Victor Wembanyama is the greatest basketball pro in NBA history

Victor Wembanyama is arguably the crown jewel of the upcoming NBA draft class. He has wowed the basketball world with his grips, touch around the hoop, defense and more.

Many believe he’s the biggest basketball prospect since LeBron James, and former Cleveland Cavaliers big man Channing Frye recently said he thinks Wembanyama is the greatest talent in basketball history.

“He’s the greatest prospect in basketball history for the NBA,” Frye said. “It’s not even close. There’s never been a god-made player, no matter what god you believe in, or none at all, that came from heaven that made a player the #1 player that his teammates love and cherish. When he falls to the ground, they run and get him. He is a good boy. He is sympathic. He is not prone to injury at his size and is an absolute defensive dog.”

It’s clear that Frye, a former NBA champion, genuinely loves and appreciates Wembanyama’s game. Many people certainly feel the same way, believing that the youngster will end up being picked by the team that gets the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft.

How good is Victor Wembanyama?

This season, Wembanyama plays with Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 and averages 22.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.1 blocks per game while shooting 50.8 percent of his shots from the field and 31.6 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc knocked down.

He looks like a generational talent and recently said he models his game after Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, two of the best players in the league at the moment.

Many basketball fans are hoping their teams can secure Wembanyama’s services in the upcoming draft, and one NBA executive even expressed a belief that Sam Presti and the Oklahoma City Thunder would tank this season to pair Wembanyama with injured big man Chet Holmgren .

Wembanyama have put in fantastic performances in recent months, putting in an impressive 30-point performance on Sunday.

He’ll certainly have a lot of pressure on his shoulders coming into the league and perhaps he can turn to James for advice on how to deal with immense expectations.

After all, the NBA world expected big things from James when he entered the league in 2003, and the 37-year-old was all but announced. He is now an 18-time All-Star, four-time champion, and four-time MVP.

Fans will have to wait and see if Wembanyama is able to match some of James’ accomplishments, but it will no doubt be very exciting to see the French big man compete in the NBA relatively soon.
