Don’t want to cook Thanksgiving dinner? At these places you can feast instead

IDAHO FALLS – Tired of baking cakes? Did you burn the turkey? Several restaurants in our area are open and some local organizations are offering free meals. Check out the list below!

Idaho Falls

The Sandpiper Restaurant: The restaurant is open from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All you can eat turkey and ham dinner is available for $29.99 per person. A regular menu is also available. To make a reservation, call: (208) 524-3344

Jaker’s Bar & Grill: Open for eat-in and take-out from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The restaurant posted on Facebook that it will be serving roast beef for dinner for $19.95 and roast ham for dinner for $17.95 since its suppliers don’t have turkey available. It includes a green bean casserole, a soup or salad and a side dish. It will also serve its dinner menu. Call (208) 524-5240 to make a reservation.

Redd’s Grill: Families can gather at Redd’s Grill at the Idaho Falls Shilo Inn on Thanksgiving Day to enjoy a meal with their family. However, due to the growing popularity of the buffet, the restaurant will expand the buffet dinner to the Snake River Event Center subject to sufficient Thanksgiving dinner reservations.

There will be a wide variety of foods such as Oven-Roasted Turkey, Oven-Roasted Salmon, Mashed Potatoes, Cornbread and more. The restaurant will also have mini cakes, such as coconut cream cake and chocolate mousse cake. Prices vary: $29.99 for adults (12-55 years), $24 for seniors (55+), $15.49 for teens (5-11 years), and children 0-4 years eat free. Reservations can be made online for groups of up to 10 people. Black Bear Diner: Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The diner serves turkey, ham and prime rib. Turkey is $23.99, the ham is $22.99 and the prime rib dinner is $25.99.

The Salvation Army: A communal Thanksgiving dinner will be held at Elks Lodge from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. If you’re at home and live in the Idaho Falls area, delivery is on a first come, first served basis. Call (208) 522-7200 for more information.


Puerto Vallarta by Senor Garcia: Located on Creek Road, the restaurant invites people who have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving to a free Thanksgiving meal. Turkey and mashed potatoes are served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m

St. Anthony Catholic Church: The Catholic Church and School of the Holy Spirit offers free meals. Meals can be picked up for the congregation on Thanksgiving Day at St. Anthony Catholic Church from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until consumed.

Fort Hall

Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel: A delicious meal is served at the Painted Horse Buffet from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm: USD 25 per person (13 years and older), USD 12 for children (4-12 years) and free for children under 3 years.


Chuck-A-Rama Buffet: The restaurant is open on Thanksgiving Day from 10am to 6pm. It serves turkey and ham. Adults are $26.99 and seniors are $22.94. There will also be To Go for $8.49 a pound and his famous buns for $6.99 a dozen.


JB’s: The restaurant is open from 8 am to 11 am and serves breakfast. This will be followed by a Thanksgiving buffet from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with turkey, baked ham, a salad buffet and dessert. It costs $18.99 for an adult and $8.99 for a child (8-10 years old).


Community Dinner Table Inc. & Blackfoot Community Pantry: A complimentary hot turkey dinner will be served on Thanksgiving Day at the Jason Lee United Methodist Church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. If you have any questions, call (208) 680-1750.

St. Anthony

The Lions Club helps host the 24th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South Fremont Junior High School cafeteria. There is no fee, but donations are accepted. Take-out and delivery service is available by calling (208) 390-6537.
