Deep Dive Global Canal Rowing Action wraps up world tour with fruitful success


“On the same day, we held grand celebrations in both Yangzhou, a major city on ancient China’s Grand Canal, and Cairo, one of the most famous cities on the Nile, the world’s longest river,” said Feng Nan, President of Deep Dive Sports and Health of China and the organizer of the campaign. “The two cities, thousands of kilometers apart, along with other cities, took part in the successful action and witnessed the successful action, which is a clear sign that the action has met with widespread approval.”

The Deep Dive Action, originally co-organized by the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO), an international organization based in Yangzhou, and the Shenzhen Foundation for International Exchange and Cooperation (SFIEC) of China, aims to do just that , the idea of ​​sport, health and environmental protection by holding rowing events in canal cities around the world.

“This is a milestone in the history of rowing. It’s also a great global environmental awareness campaign,” stressed Feng.

Starting from China’s Grand Canal in September 2021, the campaign was successfully carried out on the Potomac River in Washington, the Thames in London, the Seine in Paris, the Danube in Vienna, etc., attracting more than 2,000 international paddlers.

Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of the World Rowing Federation, highly praised the event. “More important was the powerful message of this mission, which bonded and inspired the rowing family to make a difference,” he said in a signed letter.

At a side event held during the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Rolland specifically gave his appreciation to Wang Shi, Honorary President of the Asian Rowing Federation and team leader of the campaign: “It’s great to see your incredible Commitment to the environment that was initiated during your presidency at the Asian Rowing Federation and has continued ever since.”

“The action has connected different cities and cultures and raised many people’s environmental awareness under the slogan of ‘carbon-free, zero-waste and clean water,'” Feng added. “A new campaign plan for next year is in the pipeline.”
