Few nations have equaled this feast
Participating in the FIFA World Cup is a unique opportunity for any nation to represent their country at one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world. However, some countries are so used to participating in international football tournaments that they break records and become regulars in the sport.
Brazil, Germany and Italy to name a few all rolled over the FIFA World Cup, which is pretty amazing. Brazil is the only non-European country to have won the record five times. That’s fantastic for such a footballing nation, and in this post we’ve highlighted the top six countries with 100 or more World Cup goals.
Spain – 100
Spain are the latest addition to this list, having overtaken Costa Rica 7-0 to take La Roja to 100 goals at the FIFA World Cup. The European nation has participated in 16 FIFA World Cups. Including the 2010 triumph in South Africa, and has now set another milestone with 100 goals in World Cups.
They are the first European country to win a FIFA World Cup that was not played in Europe. And from 2008 to 2012, they were named FIFA Team of the Year three times, second most of any nation after Brazil.
France – 124
France is one of the most powerful countries with a strong squad and many world champion legends. Despite winning the World Cup twice, France is one of the few teams to have scored the most goals at FIFA World Cups.
They have participated in the FIFA World Cup 15 times, ranking sixth in the world. Their last win came at the 2018 World Cup, where Deschamps appeared as a coach and player alongside Franz Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo as world champions.
Italy – 127
Italy are level with Germany in most World Cup titles (4), having competed in 18 of 22 tournaments and reached six finals. You are the fourth highest scorer at FIFA World Cups. Italy’s last title came in 2006 and they have not progressed through the group stage since then.
The country has slipped down the rankings after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and more recently the 2022 World Cup.

Argentina – 138
South America’s second most successful country, twice winning the World Cup in 1978 and 1986. The South American juggernaut has appeared in 17 of the 22 FIFA World Cups. They lost three finals in 1930, 1990 and 2014. You are the third leading scorer in World Cup history.
From Diego Maradona to Lionel Messi, the country has produced world-class players. They recently won the Copa America and are considered favorites to win the 2022 World Cup.
Brazil – 226
Brazil is the only country to have won the World Cup five times and the only country to have participated in every edition of the competition. 21 times from 1930 to 2022. Their last World Cup victory came in 2002 and they are the only South American team to have achieved the feat since then.
Brazil remains the only country never to have played in a World Cup playoff and the only country to have won it on four different continents: Europe (1958 Sweden), South America (1962 Chile), North America (1970 Mexico). and 1994 United States) and Asia (2002 Korea/Japan).
Germany – 230
Although Germany has historically been divided between West and East Germany, Germany was a successful nation at the event. With a great 25.4% shot record in the four tournaments he has competed in. They have four World Cup trophies, the last of which they won in 2014. Germany’s Miroslav Klose is the World Cup’s top scorer with 16 goals.
They are also the only nation to have scored the most goals in World Cups, having competed in 19 World Cups and remaining a well-established team in football.
