Austin Peay State University Football Selected Six Govs for CSC Academic All-District® Football Team – Clarksville Online

APSU footballGreenwood, IN – Austin Peay State University Football (APSU) athletic students Nick Carozza, CJ Evans Jr., Drae McCray, Ethan Myers, Maddux Trujillo and Harrison Wilkes have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® football teams, it has been announced Tuesday.

Carozza, a native of Alpharetta, Georgia, is a junior marketing major with a 3.84 grade point average. Carozza recorded four tackles, a quarterback rush and a pass breakout from the linebacker position while also serving on the Governors’ special team unit.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, Evans Jr. is a junior running back accounting major with a 3.68 grade point average. Evans Jr. led the governors and ranked sixth in the ASUN in 2022 with 641 rushing yards. He also led the APSU running backs and ranked 10th in the league with six rushing touchdowns.

McCray, a Tallahassee, Fla. product, is a sophomore wide receiver with a finance major and a 3.90 GPA. McCray was the fourth 1,000-yard receiver in Austin Peay State University history and the first in ASUN conference history. He led the league and ranked 10th in FCS with 1,021 receiving yards that season. McCray also led the ASUN with nine touchdown receptions that ranked 17th in FCS and 76 receptions that ranked eighth in FCS and was 23 catches more than anyone in ASUN.

A redshirt sophomore, Long Snapper from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Myers is a marketing major with a 3.70 GPA. Myers completed almost all of the long snapping duties for the Govs in 2022 and didn’t fire a single bad snap. Myers was also recovering from a fumble on a muffed punt in the regular season finale against No. 8 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Trujillo, a kicker from Flowery Branch, Georgia, is a sophomore finance major with a 4.00 grade point average. Trujillo, who was named to the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award watchlist, matched Austin Peay State University’s record and hit the longest field goal in ASUN conference history when he struck from 55 yards against Jacksonville State. Trujillo ranked third in the ASUN and 29th among FCS kickers with 77 points this season while having 11 field goals and 44 PATs.

Finally, Wilkes, a sophomore offensive lineman from Germantown, Tennessee, is a marketing major with a 3.61 GPA. Wilkes started all 11 games for the Governors at left, and in 2022 he had 54 knockdowns while blocking for the only offense in the ASUN that amassed more than 2,000 passing and rushing yards.

The 2022 Academic All-District® Football Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District® Honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® voting. Academic All-America® first and second team honorees will be announced in late December.
